By combining a standard telephone handset with a full TTY keyboard and text display, the Uniphone 1140 allows both voice and text communication from a single device. It supports traditional TTY conversations as well as Voice Carry Over (VCO), where the user speaks and reads typed responses, and Hearing Carry Over (HCO), where the user types messages and listens to spoken responses. TTY, VCO & HCO Communication

The Uniphone 1140 provides several communication options depending on the user's needs.

TTY: Type messages using the built-in keyboard and read the other person's responses on the LCD display.

Voice Carry Over (VCO): Designed for people who prefer to speak for themselves but have difficulty hearing. The user speaks through the handset and reads the other person's responses as text on the display. VCO can be used through a compatible Telecommunications Relay Service or directly with compatible TTY equipment.

Hearing Carry Over (HCO): Designed for people who can hear but have difficulty speaking. The user types messages on the keyboard and listens to the other person's spoken responses through the handset.
