Panasonic VCR/DVD recorder
It plays well, but I haven’t been able to test the transfer of video recordings to DVD— it won’t allow this (it was figure skating from an NBC broadcast program— I was always able to record and transfer before, but now it says copyright. And that was why I bought it!)

My local store recommended Porter. I ordered a Panasonic similar to my old one and it's great! The old Panasonic remote works with the new unit!

Panasonic DVD/VHS
This site was recommended by a store which no longer sells these products. I use the Panasonic at least once/day, sometimes instead of watching those horrible TV shows. I was pleased that an old Panasonic remote also worked. It's nice not to have to learn a new product.

Don't discard your VHS tapes yet !
I had searched for 6 months both on line and in stores for a unit on which I could record and play back both VHS tapes and DVDs. Inferior units were available, but seldom and I did not want to rely on equipment made in China or sold by "reputable" companies but supplied by manufacturers who knows where in the world. While I had to wait several months for the item to be in stock, I felt that buying a brand I know to be good from a small company specializing in refurbishing electronics was a wise move. So far, the unit has performed very well and I am still learning about its features. Thank you
